Understanding X - Ray Sialogram
What is X - Ray Sialogram?
The X - Ray Sialogram is an imaging technique to visualize the salivary gland situated in mouth. Salivary glands secrete saliva in the mouth which helps in chewing, swallowing and digestion of food. This test helps to detect any blockage, narrowing or dialation in the gland. It is recommended in case of pain, swelling, drying or/ and foul taste in mouth.
Sialogram helps to diagnose salivary duct stones, infections and oral cancer.
What is X - Ray Sialogram used for?
- To diagnose the cause of unexplained foul breath, dry mouth, swelling over the jaws and neck, pain in mouth or face
- To detect constrictions or other obstructions in salivary flow
- To detect and diagnose salivary gland cancer
- To detect inflammation or infection of the salivary gland
- To diagnose salivary duct stones and salivary duct infections
- To diagnose Sjogren’s syndrome, which is an autoimmune disorder that causes dry mouth and eyes
