PNH by FLAER- High Sensitivity in Allahabad

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare disease that presents clinically with a variety of symptoms, the most prevalent of which are hemolytic anemia, hemoglobinuria, and somatic symptoms including fatigue and shortness of breath.

FLAER, or Fluorescent Lysine-Containing Aerolysin, is a valuable tool for diagnosing and monitoring paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), a rare blood disorder caused by a mutation in the PIG-A gene. FLAER binds to glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins lacking in PNH cells, allowing their detection and quantification, mainly on red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and platelets.

This test can identify and measure populations of GPI-deficient blood cells (a hallmark of PNH) by using FLAER with flow cytometry. FLAER test has high sensitivity and specificity which is crucial for detecting even small populations of PNH cells accurately, thus helping in disease management.
