MTB Xpert XDR Rapid, Sputum

The MTB Xpert XDR Rapid, Sputum is an advanced molecular test that enables rapid molecular Drug Susceptibility testing for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. When combined with the first level Xpert MTB/RIF- Ultra test, it helps rapidly detect common mutations associated with resistance to isoniazid (INH), fluoroquinolones (FLQ), second-line injectable drugs (SLIDs), and ethionamide (ETH) in a single test. This test is intended for use as a reflex test for a specimen that is determined to be MTB positive. The test is tailored to detect the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in sputum samples; and in patients where MTB is detected, the test can also detect isoniazid (INH) resistance and resistance to commonly used second line anti-tubercular drugs. 

It is recommended as a reflex test to patients in whom MTB (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) infection or Xpert MTB/RIF- Ultra test is positive. This test is especially useful in identifying drug-resistant strains such as Pre-XDR TB (a form of multidrug-resistant TB) and MDR; allowing for early and targeted treatment. By enabling early detection, it helps guide appropriate and timely treatment decisions, thus improving patient outcomes and helping prevent further transmission of resistant TB strains.
