Preparations

You might be asked to remove metallic coins, jewelry, metal wristwatches, metallic keys, dentures, or hearing aids, as the MRI uses strong magnetic fields.

Tell your radiologist if you have metallic implants like pacemakers, cochlear implants, aneurysm clips, neuro-stimulators, surgical staples/clips, or drug implants.

Pregnant women should inform their doctor about their pregnancy before going for an MRI.

Why is this test booked?

To diagnose infection in your inner ear (labyrinthitis, ostosyphilis).

To detect any cancer/tumor of the inner ear (intravestibular lipoma, endolymph sac tumor)

To find out the inner ear traumatic conditions like otosclerosis (abnormal hardening of ear bones, haemorrhage of ear bones.

To detemine superior semi circular canal dehiscence syndrome (absence of a temporal bone of the inner ear) which leads to body balance disorder and hypersensitivity to sound.
