Maternal Screen (Quadruple test) - 1st Trimester with Preeclampsia, Serum

During the first trimester of pregnancy, many parents want to know about the health of their unborn baby. This screening test, often done between weeks 11 and 13 weeks + 6 days of pregnancy, is a simple blood test that measures the levels of several specific substances in the mother's blood. These substances are naturally produced by the mother or the developing baby.

Free Beta-HCG and Pregnancy-Associated Plasma Protein-A (PAPP-A): The levels of these two substances can help doctors estimate the risk of the baby having chromosomal conditions like Down syndrome (Trisomy 21) or Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18).

Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP): The levels of this protein can help check for the risk of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida.

Placental Growth Factor (PLGF): The levels of this protein are used to help check for the risk of preeclampsia, a serious condition that can cause high blood pressure and affect the kidneys and other organs.

The results of the Maternal Screen (Quadruple test) - 1st Trimester with Preeclampsia, Serum are interpreted along with ultrasound findings, particularly the nuchal translucency (NT) measurement to provide a comprehensive early pregnancy risk assessment.

This is a screening test, not a diagnostic test. It estimates the risk of fetal chromosomal abnormalities and pregnancy-related conditions using maternal serum markers, but it cannot confirm a diagnosis. It also helps in the early detection of preeclampsia risk.

Overall, the test supports prenatal counseling and clinical decision-making, aids in identifying high-risk pregnancies, and enhances monitoring and planning throughout pregnancy. If an increased risk is identified, your doctor may recommend further, more definitive diagnostic tests.

A few special preparations are required for this test, including a doctor’s prescription, and recommended at (gestational age) 11 to 13.6 days. The latest Ultrasound (USG) report with a completely filled Maternal screening TRF form including CRL/BPD, nasal bone status, ductus venosus status, and NT value in millimeters is mandatory. Please note that this test is not valid for triplets and above. For Preeclampsia screening, it is mandatory to provide USG findings of mean arterial pressure (MAP) and uterine artery pulsatility index (UAPI), blood pressure (BP), and height. Samples may be rejected if mandatory information is missing.
