The DMSA (Dimercaptosuccinic Acid) Scan scan uses a radioactive chemical known as dimercaptosuccinic acid, to create specialised pictures of the kidneys for assesing their health. This chemical is provided intravenously and emits gamma radiations. It accumulates in the regions of the renal tract and kidneys having abnormal activity.
