Cysticercus - IgG antibody, Serum

Cysticercus - IgG antibody, Serum test is carried out to analyze the nervous system of a patient. When the patient is infected by the tapeworm Taenia solium it causes neurocysticercosis. Humans acquire cysticercosis by ingesting microscopic T solium eggs in contaminated food, water, or fomites. Tapeworm eggs contained in food or water migrate through the intestinal wall to various tissues including the brain.

Major symptoms of this disease are epileptic seizures and convulsions. The presence of cysts in the brain or spinal cord referred to as neurocysticercosis, is the most serious form of the disease while some individuals may be asymptomatic, and may exhibit some minor symptoms like seizures, headache, confusion, and difficulty with balance. Diagnosis of cysticercosis relies on both imaging studies and serologic testing results.

Treatments in the form of surgery, steroids, and anti-parasite medicines are available for the disease.
