CECT Scan Thoracic Spine
Understanding CECT Scan Thoracic Spine
What is CECT Scan Thoracic Spine?
The CECT Scan Thoracic Spine test is a Contrast Enhanced Computerized Tomography (CECT) scan used to detect any abnormalities in the 3 levels of the thoracic spine including upper, middle, and lower thoracic spine.
In this diagnostic test, rotating beams of X-rays create 3-dimensional and cross-sectional detailed pictures of the Thoracic Spine. A contrast media (a special dye) is injected to enhance the view and highlight the underlying disorders such as:
Vertebral fractures
Spinal stenosis
Thoracic herniated disc
Sprains
Overuse injuries
The CECT Scan Thoracic Spine is done to detect any fracture or abnormalities in the spine such as spinal birth defects in children, abnormal growth arthritis, changes in curvature, scoliosis, and spinal stenosis. Side effects may include an allergic reaction to the contrast media.
What is CECT Scan Thoracic Spine used for?
- To diagnose pharyngitis / sore throat (inflammation of the pharynx) and laryngitis (inflammation of the larynx)
- To detect sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses), tonsillitis (inflammation of the lymph nodes), epiglottitis (inflammation of the lid of larynx)
- To find out nasal obstruction and otitis media (earache with nasopharyngeal infection) and croup / laryngotracheobronchitis (viral infection which leads to infected airways passage)
