Understanding Allergy, Individual Marker, Penicillium Notatum
What is Allergy, Individual Marker, Penicillium Notatum?
An Allergy, Individual Marker, PENICILLIUM NOTATUM is an IgE blood test that helps diagnose your allergy to Penicillium notatum. Penicillium notatum is a blue-green mold found on stale fruits, nuts, and bread and is used as a starter culture for producing blue cheese. The test quantifies your body’s response to the allergen mold.
Stale foods may contain Penicillium notatum; you may not even notice it. If you eat these foods, you may develop an allergic reaction to Penicillium. Your body observes this allergen as a potential enemy and produces antibodies that fight against the allergen, causing an allergic reaction in the body. The allergy symptoms include sneezing, swelling of tongue, face, lips, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cough, sore throat, and breathing difficulty.
Interpreting Allergy, Individual Marker, Penicillium Notatum results
Interpretations
* If your total IgE level is increased, it usually indicates that you are suffering from one or more allergies. Sometimes, increased levels are also associated with parasitic infections. * An elevated IgE indicates an allergic process but does not indicate what a person is allergic to. In general, the greater the number of things a person is allergic to, the higher is the IgE level.
