Understanding Allergy, Individual Marker, Cocklebur
What is Allergy, Individual Marker, Cocklebur?
An allergy is our immune system’s reaction to a harmless substance which it considers dangerous. So, to fight such substances called allergens, the immune system produces antibodies called Immunoglobulin E or IgE. When the body comes in contact with the allergens, the antibodies release chemicals that cause allergy symptoms. An Allergy Individual Marker is a test used to measure the level of IgE antibodies in the blood.
The Individual Marker Cocklebur is a test used to determine an allergy to cocklebur. Cocklebur is a weed, the pollen from which can cause an allergy. Symptoms of a pollen allergy include itchy, runny nose, sneezing, and itchy, watery eyes. High levels of IgE suggest an allergy. Antihistamines are prescribed to treat pollen allergy.
Interpreting Allergy, Individual Marker, Cocklebur results
Interpretations
* If your total IgE level is increased, it usually indicates that you are suffering from one or more allergies. Sometimes, increased levels are also associated with parasitic infections. * An elevated IgE indicates an allergic process but does not indicate what a person is allergic to. In general, the greater the number of things a person is allergic to, the higher is the IgE level.
