Understanding Allergy, Individual Marker, Paprika
What is Allergy, Individual Marker, Paprika?
Allergy, Individual Marker, PAPRIKA is a blood test that helps detect an allergy to paprika (red spice of pepper). It measures the levels of immunoglobulin E or IgE. An increase in IgE levels indicates an allergy.
When our body misinterprets certain substances as dangerous, the immune system releases IgE antibodies to protect the body against allergens. The antibodies release chemicals that cause symptoms of an allergic reaction.
Symptoms of a paprika allergy include swelling of the lips, rashes, wheezing, diarrhea, bloating, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis. The allergic reaction may be experienced immediately or after a few hours of ingesting the food.
Oral antihistamines provide relief from allergy symptoms. Avoiding this spice is the best way to prevent the allergy.
Interpreting Allergy, Individual Marker, Paprika results
Interpretations
* If your total IgE level is increased, it usually indicates that you are suffering from one or more allergies. Sometimes, increased levels are also associated with parasitic infections. * An elevated IgE indicates an allergic process but does not indicate what a person is allergic to. In general, the greater the number of things a person is allergic to, the higher is the IgE level.
