Test Preparation

Urine sample must preferably be the midstream urine (part of urine that comes after first and before the last stream). Collect the urine sample in a sealed and sterile container provided by our sample collection professional. Make sure that the container doesn't come in contact with your skin. Women are advised not to give the sample during the menstrual period unless prescribed.

What is Calcium Urine?

You already know that your body requires calcium for the bones. The muscles, heart, and nerve need to function properly. Too little or too much calcium in the body may lead to severe health issues. The best way to check the level of calcium in your body is through urine. It helps your doctor understand the calcium level and is a painless process.

In case your doctor has recommended a urine test, it means that they are suspecting medical issues, such as parathyroid disease, kidney stone, kidney disease, or bone health issues. Checking for calcium might not be a part of the routine urine test. Your doctor is going to specifically recommend the test in case the calcium level appears to be low.

What is Calcium Urine used for?

The Urine Calcium Test is performed:

· To evaluate the cause of stones in the kidneys or urinary tract

· To determine the functioning of kidneys

· To help diagnose parathyroid gland conditions

Interpretations

Normal range (Approx.):

100 to 300 mg/day

50 to 150 mg/day for low calcium diet

Lower than the normal range of calcium levels in urine can indicate a shortage of calcium in the diet. It may indicate deficiency of vitamin D, abnormal levels of parathyroid hormone levels, and poor bone health.

Higher than the normal range of calcium levels in urine indicates an excess of calcium in the diet, and indicates the risk of formation of kidney stones.

The test is performed on a urine sample collected over a 24-hour period of time. On the first day, urinate into the toilet after waking up, and for the rest of the day, urinate into the specialized container provided. On the next day, urinate into the container after you wake up. During the day, keep the container tightly closed and refrigerated when not in use.
