Understanding Allergy, Individual Marker, Walnut
What is Allergy, Individual Marker, Walnut?
Allergy, Individual Marker, WALNUT test is performed to determine if a person is allergic to walnuts. Allergies are abnormal reactions produced by the body in response to a substance it perceives as a threat. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is a specialized protein called an antibody, produced by the immune system to fight these threats. Walnuts belong to the tree-nut family which contain allergen proteins like 2S albumins, legumins, and vicilins.
The allergy test measures the amount of walnut-specific IgE antibodies in the blood. Your doctor may recommend the test if you have allergic symptoms like throat itching, vomiting, skin rashes, nausea, diarrhea, sneezing, and coughing. Higher levels of walnut-specific IgE antibodies may indicate that a person is allergic to walnuts. Walnut allergies can be prevented by avoiding their consumption.
Interpreting Allergy, Individual Marker, Walnut results
Interpretations
* If your total IgE level is increased, it usually indicates that you are suffering from one or more allergies. Sometimes, increased levels are also associated with parasitic infections. * An elevated IgE indicates an allergic process but does not indicate what a person is allergic to. In general, the greater the number of things a person is allergic to, the higher is the IgE level.
