What is Allergy, Individual Marker, Peanut?
The Allergy, Individual Marker, PEANUT is an allergen-specific blood test to measure the total amount of IgE antibodies produced against peanuts. Peanut allergies are quite common among people. During the test, a blood sample will be drawn from a vein in the arm. IgE levels above 0.7 kU/L are considered positive for allergic reactions.
The allergic symptoms to peanuts include itching, skin rashes, wheezing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramping, swollen lips, dizziness, fainting, anaphylaxis. The symptoms can manifest immediately or after a few hours of ingesting the food. Once you are identified as being allergic to peanuts, visit a doctor immediately for treatment. The treatment for this allergy may include taking anti IgE medication till the offset of the symptoms.

Interpretations
* If your total IgE level is increased, it usually indicates that you are suffering from one or more allergies. Sometimes, increased levels are also associated with parasitic infections. * An elevated IgE indicates an allergic process but does not indicate what a person is allergic to. In general, the greater the number of things a person is allergic to, the higher is the IgE level.
