What is CECT TM Joint?
Contrast Enhanced Computerized Tomography (CECT) Scan of the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is a diagnostic procedure in which a contrast agent is injected and the rotating beams of X-rays are used to create cross sectional three dimensional images of the TMJ, the joint between temporal bones of the skull and the mandibles or jaws.
Why is CECT TM Joint done?
- • To locate and diagnose jawbone fractures • To assess articulation or movement of the jaws (jaw dislocation) • To detect any congenital anomalies (birth defects) of the TM joint • To detect any inflammation or infection of the TM joint or the surrounding connective tissues • To diagnose any tumors (abnormal growths) in this area
