A CECT Nasopharynx - Coronal or Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography of the Nasopharynx- coronal is a structural imaging technique. The test is used to view the cross-sectional images of the nasopharynx, air-filled hollow sinuses, and pharynx (mouth, throat, and esophagus). It also helps identify and evaluate pharyngitis (inflammation of the pharynx), laryngitis (inflammation of the larynx), sore throat and nasal obstruction.

In this, rotating x-ray beams and contrasting material are used to highlight the regions of the nasopharynx to be examined. CECT is a safe technique. However, the contrast material may sometimes cause nausea and vomiting, a metallic taste in the mouth, or flushing. An abnormal scan may indicate the presence of nasopharynx abnormalities such as cancer, bone fractures, or genetic malfunction (congenital disabilities) of the nasopharynx.
