Pimecrolimus Topical is used in Atopic dermatitis, prevention of organ rejection in transplant patients, rheumatoid arthritis, nephrotic syndrome, psoriasis, bone marrow transplantation and uveitis.
How Pimecrolimus Topical works
Pimecrolimus belongs to a class of medications called as immunosupressants. It works on specific cells of the immune system (T cells) which aggravates symptoms of eczema such as redness and itching.

Expert advice for Pimecrolimus Topical
- Do not use pimecrolimus cream for an extended period and apply to limited areas of the skin affected.
- Do not use pimecrolimus if you have skin allergies or erythroderma (redness all over the skin) or skin tumors (cancers or swelling of lymph nodes) or on areas of skin affected by active viral infection such as cold sores or chicken pox.
- Avoid direct contact of the cream with your eyes, nose or mouth. In case of direct contact with eyes, wash your eyes with water and seek immediate medical attention.
- Avoid excessive sun exposure and wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen while taking pimecrolimus, as it may increase sensitivity to sunlight.
- Do not apply the pimecrolimus cream on the vaccination site until reddening of the skin and/or swelling disappears.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Do not use if you are allergic to pimecrolimus or any of its ingredients.
- Do not use if you having skin conditions other than atopic dermatitis or a viral skin infection.
- Do noy use by Children < 2 years.
