Xtralite Ointment is a combination of two medicines: Fluocinolone Topical, Hydroquinone Topical and Tretinoin Topical which treat melasma (dark spots on face). Fluocinolone Topical is a steroid medicine. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Hydroquinone Topical is a skin lightening medicine. It works by reducing the amount of a skin pigment (melanin) that causes darkening of skin. This effect is reversible. Tretinoin Topical is a form of vitamin A that helps the skin to renew itself more quickly.
Xtralite Ointment may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Xtralite Ointment is probably safe to use during lactation.
Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby. The baby's skin should not come into direct contact with the treated area of skin. Water-miscible cream/gel is preferred as ointments may expose the baby to harmful effects of Xtralite Ointment via licking.
Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Your ability to drive or operate machinery might be impaired while you are taking Xtralite Ointment especially if you are feeling dizzy or have a severe headache.
There is limited information available on the use of Xtralite Ointment in patients with kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.
