Side Effects of Respidon are Sleepiness, Dizziness, Orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing), Dryness in mouth, Weight gain, Constipation, Restlessness, Tremor, Muscle stiffness.
Few studies suggest that low doses of Respidon can be used for anxiety. However, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor. The doctor will suggest the exact dose by weighing the possible benefits and risks associated with this medicine. Take the medication as advised by the doctor and follow the instructions as provided.
Q. Can Respidon cause psychosis?
Respidon is used to treat conditions like psychosis and schizophrenia. The chances of developing medicine-induced psychosis are rare with Respidon. However, in a few specific conditions, there are chances where Respidon can worsen the psychiatric condition, although it is rare. Do consult your doctor if you do not see any improvement or worsening of symptoms.
Q. Can Respidon cause weight gain?
Yes, Respidon can cause significant weight gain. You should monitor your weight regularly and if there is significant weight gain then you should report your doctor immediately.
Q. Can I drive vehicles while taking Respidon?
Respidon sometimes can cause dizziness, tiredness, and vision problems which can affect the ability of a person to drive and use heavy machines. Hence, the patients on Respidon are advised not to drive or operate machinery without consulting the doctor.
Q. Can I take my medicines for epilepsy while taking Respidon?
You should not stop taking your anti-epileptic medicines while taking other medications. Some antiepileptic medications like Carbamazepine, phenytoin may alter the blood levels of Respidon and therefore special caution should be ensured while taking these medications. The dose of Respidon should be adjusted as needed while taking along with antiepileptic drugs. If you start or stop taking such medicines you may need a different dose of Respidon.
