Bromocriptine is a dopamine receptor agonist. At low strength, it reduces insulin resistance and improves blood sugar control in diabetes mellitus. At high strength, it treats increased prolactin level by decreasing the amount of prolactin in the body. This helps in fertility and period problems. It also treats acromegaly by decreasing the amount of growth hormone in the body.
Proctinal contains a medicine called Bromocriptine. It is used to treat female infertility caused due to the abnormally high level of prolactin. It is also used to stop breast milk production (lactation) in case of stillbirth, abortion or miscarriage.
Q. How and in what dose should I take Proctinal?
You must take this medicine with food or after food. Take this medicine, as per the advice of your doctor. The dose and duration depend on your exact medical condition.
Q. What if I forget to take Proctinal?
If you forget a dose, take your next dose as planned. Do not take the double dose, to make up for a forgotten one.
Q. What are the possible side effects of using Proctinal?
During the first few days of taking Proctinal you may experience low blood pressure, for which it is advised to slowly change your position when you lie down or stand up. The other common side effects are headache, dizziness, drowsiness, feeling and being sick, constipation, and blocked nose. If any of these side effects bother you, consult with your doctor.
