How Metasone S Products work
Mometasone + Salicylic Acid is a combination of two medicines: Mometasone + Salicylic Acid1 and Mometasone + Salicylic Acid2 which treat eczema and psoriasis. Mometasone + Salicylic Acid1 is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Mometasone + Salicylic Acid2 is a keratolytic medicine which breaks down keratin clumps, removes dead skin cells and softens the skin. It also enhances the absorption of Mometasone + Salicylic Acid1 into the skin.

Frequently asked questions about Metasone S Products
Frequently asked questions about Metasone S Products
Q. What is Metasone S Ointment used for, and what skin problem does it treat?
Metasone S Ointment is for the initial treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis (a scaly, itchy, red skin condition). It combines a potent steroid (mometasone) and a keratolytic (salicylic acid) to help manage this skin condition.
Q. Who should not use Metasone S Ointment?
Individuals should not use Metasone S Ointment if they are allergic to mometasone, salicylic acid, or any ingredient present in it. It is also not to be used where there is an untreated bacterial, viral (e.g., cold sores, chickenpox), fungal, or parasitic skin infection, and in conditions such as perioral dermatitis, rosacea, acne vulgaris, post-vaccination skin reactions, skin atrophy, ulcers, wounds, or stretch marks.
Q. Are there age limits to use Metasone S Ointment, and can children use it?
Metasone S Ointment is indicated for adults and adolescents 12 years and older. Safety and effectiveness in children under twelve have not been established, so it should not be used in younger children unless a specialist advises otherwise.
Q. Could Metasone S Ointment cause serious side effects?
With prolonged or large-area use of Metasone S Ointment, the steroid present in this medicine can be absorbed and may cause adrenal (HPA-axis) suppression or other hormone effects. Also watch for severe allergic reaction, sudden worsening of the skin (a sign of hidden infection), or visual problems like blurred vision. These need medical attention.
Q. Will Metasone S Ointment make a skin infection worse or hide an infection?
Yes, Metasone S Ointment can mask or worsen infections by suppressing local immune responses. If the skin becomes more infected or the rash changes in an unexpected way, you should stop the medicine and see a doctor, since an antibacterial or antifungal treatment may be needed.
Q. Can Metasone S Ointment be used on the face, groin, or near the eyes?
No, Metasone S Ointment is not recommended for use on the face, groin, genitals, or other skin folds (intertriginous areas), and should not be used near the eyes, as it is very risky. Take care to avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.
Q. During Metasone S Ointment treatment, is there anything special to know if I am having phototherapy or sun treatment?
Yes. Salicylic acid present in Metasone S Ointment can act as a photoprotective/photoreactive agent. If you are about to receive UV therapy, remove and clean off the medicine before treatment to avoid uneven burning of nearby skin. You can reapply after the UV session.
Q. If the rash does not get better or gets worse, what then?
If there is no improvement, or the rash worsens (more redness, pain, pus, spreading, or signs of infection), stop Metasone S Ointment and see your doctor. They may need to treat a secondary infection or change therapy. This medicine is not recommended for pustular psoriasis or guttate psoriasis.
