MUSK Antibody

MUSK antibody test helps detect the presence of antibodies, produced by the immune system that mistakenly attack proteins called muscle-specific receptor tyrosine kinase. This test can be done to diagnose myasthenia gravis (MG), an autoimmune neurological condition in which antibodies destroy the communication between nerves and muscle, resulting in muscle weakness and fatigue. The most common symptoms of MG include weakness of the eye muscles, drooping eyelid (s) or double vision, trouble swallowing, difficulty in speaking, breathing problems, change of facial expressions, or muscle weakness during physical activity. Myasthenia gravis is a not preventable condition. However, medication and treatment may help relieve symptoms, and therefore MUSK antibody test is important to establish a diagnosis and initiate timely management of the disease.
