Manganese ICPMS
Understanding Manganese ICPMS
What is Manganese ICPMS?
The Manganese ICPMS is a blood test that measures the amount of manganese, a trace element that plays a key role in several biological processes such as formation of bone and cartilage, energy production, regulation of immune function etc. It is primarily obtained through food sources, such as nuts, seeds, whole grains, legumes, and leafy vegetables.
The Manganese ICPMS test is used to identify both manganese toxicity (excess manganese) and deficiency. It may be advised when there are symptoms suggestive of manganese imbalance in the body such as neurological symptoms (e.g., tremors, muscle stiffness, or difficulty walking), fatigue, irritability, weak bones, or difficulty concentrating. The test is also relevant for individuals with occupations involving the handling of manganese or those living in areas with high levels of manganese in the environment. Additionally, it can also be used to monitor individuals receiving treatment for conditions affecting manganese metabolism or to assess the adequacy of dietary manganese intake.
This test is done by a highly specialised Mass Spectrometric technique (ICP-MS) that can measure elements at trace levels in body fluids.
Please note: This is an outsourced test. The sample for this test is collected by TATA 1MG and processed at a NABL accredited partnered lab.
