JC/BK Quantitative PCR in Gurgaon

JC/BK Quantitative PCR test is a rapid test to perform quantification of two polyoma viruses JC (John Cunningham) and BK in the blood sample. This is a multiplex Real-time PCR-based test.  This test should be ordered to monitor the levels of polyomavirus in patients already diagnosed with polyoma viral infection. Polyomaviruses are acquired during the first year of life in the majority of the population, wherein the viruses remain dormant. These viruses can reactivate and can cause infection mainly in individuals who have undergone organ transplantation or patients who have had kidney surgery or injury.  Risk factors for infection also include old age, and diseases like AIDS or diabetes which weaken the immune system. There is no antiviral drug that is effective in treating polyomavirus-associated nephropathy (PVAN), hence the doctor will adjust the category and dosage of immunosuppressor to reduce the spread of the virus; however, this method increases the risk of rejection reaction. The results are reported in International Units per milliliter (IU/mL) and the linear range of the assay is >100 - 1010 IU/ml for JC virus and >1000 - 1010 IU/ml for the BK virus.
