CD8
Understanding CD8
What is CD8?
CD8 positive T-cells are mediators of adaptive immunity. These are cytotoxic suppressor T-cells which restrain certain types of immune response and are important for immune defence against intracellular pathogens and for tumor surveillance. They also contribute to excessive immune response leading to immune mediated damage.
What is CD8 used for?
The CD4/CD8 ratio test measures the quantity of CD4 and CD8 in the blood. And, if you have been diagnosed with HIV, it also evaluates the state of your immune system and disease progression. Occasionally, the test also assesses other conditions, including lymphomas and non-HIV immune deficiencies. The CD8 test is performed when the doctor screens a patient against T-Cell Lymphoma. It is also conducted during and after the treatment for T-Cell Lymphoma, so that the doctor can check on the cancer’s progress.
