What is Protein C?
Protein C as the name suggests is a protein present in the blood that helps in controlling blood clot formation. This test involves measurement of Protein C in the blood to evaluate if they are functioning well. Due to certain disorders there can be deficiency of the protein which can lead to excessive blood clotting.
Why is Protein C done?
The test is required to evaluate and measure the protein concentration in the blood if blood clotting time is found to be higher than normal. Symptoms due to an unchecked blood clot can be tenderness, edema, sepsis, deep blue colour and purple skin in infants.
