What is PML-RARA (APML)?
The test is done when you have signs and symptoms of leukemia. Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APML) cells fuse the retinoic acid receptor alpha gene and polymyelocytic leukemia gene (PML-RARA), which produce a messenger RNA that is quantitatively detected by a PCR-based assay.
Why is PML-RARA (APML) done?
The test is used to diagnose acute polymyelocytic leukemia (APML), detecting recurrent or residual APL and monitor the promyelocytic leukemia-retinoic acid receptor alpha (PML-RARA) levels in APL patients.
