Cyclosporine level
Understanding Cyclosporine level
What is Cyclosporine level?
Cyclosporine test is used to determine the cyclosporine level in the blood. Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressant that helps prevent transplant rejection in patients with kidney, liver, and heart transplants. It dampens the body’s natural defence system and gives the transplanted organ a better chance of survival. In some cases, it is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
It helps doctors adjust the initial dosage of cyclosporine in patients who have undergone organ transplants. It is a serological test, which means the test sample is a serum (blood). The blood sample is taken in a sterile environment, and the test takes 24-36 hours to yield results. Low levels of cyclosporine may increase the chances of organ rejection. Higher levels of cyclosporine may reduce the chances of organ rejection.
