Retapamulin is used in the treatment of bacterial skin infections.
How Retapamulin works
Retapamulin is an antibiotic. It works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Thus, it stops the bacteria from growing, and prevents the infection from spreading.
Common side effects of Retapamulin
Headache, Application site irritation, Itching, Diarrhea, Nausea, Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), Eczema, Fever
Expert advice for Retapamulin
- Retapamulin treats minor skin infections caused by certain types of bacteria.
- Apply it gently to the infected area of skin twice a day for five days.
- Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, mouth or genital areas. Rinse off with water if accidental contact occurs.
- Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor.
- Stop using it and inform your doctor if you notice worsening of the infection or if you develop increased redness and irritation.
- Dispose off any remaining medicine seven days after opening.
- Consult your doctor immediately if there is no improvement in your infection after two to three days of treatment.
