Ichtyolammonium also known as Ichthammol is used to treat chronic inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema (rough and inflamed skin with blisters) venous eczema (inflamed skin around varicose veins [enlarged and twisted veins in the legs]) and inflammation of sweat glands and roots of nails. It may also be used for treating bursitis (inflammation and swelling of the fluid filled sac around joints), tennis- or golf elbows and joint strains.

How it works

Ichtyolammonium belongs to class of drugs called anti-inflammatory and emollients. It has anti-inflammatory, bactericidal (substance which kills bacteria) and fungicidal (substance which kills fungi) properties. It reduces inflammation by suppressing the release of chemicals that mediate inflammation. As an antibacterial and antifungal agent, it decreases bacterial and fungal growth around the inflamed skin.
