Carmofur is an antineoplastic agent (prevents or inhibits growth of cancer) which is used along with other anti-cancer drugs in treating breast and colorectal cancer (cancer of colon and rectum).
How it works
Carmofur belongs to a class of medications called halopyrimidines. It works by breaking down some proteins found in cancerous cells and works along with other anti-cancer agents to prevent growth of cancer cells.

- You may be at risk for low numbers of platelets or white blood cells during therapy and transfusions of the same may be required.
- Women who are planning to become pregnant should be counselled about the effect of this drug on fertility. They should use two methods of contraception while on this therapy and thereafter as recommended by the doctor.
- Men who are going to use this therapy should not father a child while on this therapy and thereafter as recommended by the doctor. They should also seek guidance and counselling on sperm conservation before taking this therapy.
- Do not take if allergic to carmofur or any of its ingredients.
