Patient Concerns about MS Products

Frequently asked questions about MS Products

Q. What is MS 120 Capsule DR used for?

MS 120 Capsule DR is used to treat relapsing‑remitting multiple sclerosis (MS) in adults and children aged 13 years and older. It helps reduce the frequency of MS relapses and may slow disease progression.

Q. Who should not take MS 120 Capsule DR?

Individuals should not take MS 120 Capsule DR if they are allergic to dimethyl fumarate or any ingredient in the medicine, or if they have suspected or confirmed progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a rare and serious brain infection.

Q. What is PML, and how does MS 120 Capsule DR relate to it?

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a rare, potentially fatal brain infection caused by a virus. Cases have been reported in patients taking MS 120 Capsule DR, especially those with low white blood cell counts (lymphopenia). Your doctor will monitor your blood counts regularly to reduce this risk.

Q. Can MS 120 Capsule DR cause low white blood cell counts?

Yes. MS 120 Capsule DR can lower lymphocyte counts, which may increase infection risk. Your doctor will check your blood before starting treatment and every 3 months during therapy. Treatment may be stopped if your counts drop too low for more than 6 months.

Q. What serious side effects of MS 120 Capsule DR require immediate medical attention?

Serious side effects of MS 120 Capsule DR include PML (new weakness, vision changes, confusion, personality changes), severe allergic reactions (swelling, breathing trouble, rash), or symptoms of liver problems (yellowing skin or eyes, severe stomach pain).

Q. Are there any kidney or liver concerns with MS 120 Capsule DR?

Yes. MS 120 Capsule DR may cause kidney changes and liver enzyme elevations. Your doctor will check your kidney and liver function before you start and periodically during treatment. Use with caution if you have severe kidney or liver disease.

Q. Can I get infections like shingles while taking MS 120 Capsule DR?

Yes. Herpes zoster (shingles) infections have been reported while taking MS 120 Capsule DR. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop painful blisters, rash, burning skin, or flu‑like symptoms, especially if you have low white blood cell counts.

Q. Can MS 120 Capsule DR cause flushing or stomach problems?

Yes. Flushing (redness, warmth) and gastrointestinal side effects (diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain) are very common, especially in the first month of MS 120 Capsule DR treatment. Taking the medicine with food can help reduce these effects. Your doctor may temporarily lower the dose.

Q. What is Fanconi syndrome, and can MS 120 Capsule DR cause it?

Fanconi syndrome is a rare kidney disorder that has been reported with fumarate‑containing medicines such as MS 120 Capsule DR. Symptoms include increased urination, thirst, muscle weakness, or bone pain. Contact your doctor if you notice these signs, so testing can be done.
