How Gartic Products work
Betamethasone + Gentamicin is a combination of two medicines: Betamethasone + Gentamicin1 and Betamethasone + Gentamicin2. Betamethasone + Gentamicin1 is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy. Betamethasone + Gentamicin2 is an antibiotic. It stops bacterial growth by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by the bacteria to carry out vital functions.
Patient Concerns about Gartic Products
Frequently asked questions about Gartic Products
Frequently asked questions about Gartic Products
Q. What is the use of Gartic Eye Drop?
Gartic Eye Drop is used to treat bacterial eye infections involving inflammation. Gartic Eye Drop contains a steroid that reduces inflammation, redness, and swelling, and an antibiotic that kills the bacteria causing the infection.
Q. Are there any serious side effects of Gartic Eye Drop?
The serious side effect, yet not so common, is increased pressure in the eye (intraocular pressure). However, this risk increases if you have a family history of glaucoma, myopia (nearsightedness), or diabetes.
Q. Can Gartic Eye Drop be used with contact lenses?
You should remove contact lenses before using Gartic Eye Drop. Do not use Gartic Eye Drop or any other eye medicine while wearing contact lenses if it contains a preservative called benzalkonium chloride (BAK), as BAK can damage the lenses or alter their properties. Always wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses after using Gartic Eye Drop.
Q. How quickly does Gartic Eye Drop work?
The exact time Gartic Eye Drop takes to show results is not known. However, you may start to notice improvement in your eye symptoms, such as redness or irritation, within 2 to 3 days of use. The full effects of Gartic Eye Drop may take a few days to weeks to become apparent.
Q. What should I avoid while using Gartic Eye Drop?
You should avoid touching the Gartic Eye Drop tip to your eye or any surface to prevent contamination. Do not use Gartic Eye Drop if the medicine changes color or becomes cloudy. Also, after using Gartic Eye Drop, it may cause temporary blurring of vision, and you should avoid driving until your vision clears.
Q. Can I still use Gartic Eye Drop if the bottle is open but not yet expired?
You can use unopened (seal-packed) Gartic Eye Drop until its expiry date. However, once opened, use it within 28 days (4 weeks), even if it has not expired. Discard any remaining medicine after this period. Also, make sure to store Gartic Eye Drop at room temperature, keeping it away from light.
Q. Can prolonged use of Gartic Eye Drop cause cataracts?
Gartic Eye Drop contains a steroid, and prolonged use (for more than 10 days) of medicine containing a steroid increases the risk of cataract (clouding of the eye lens). However, if you experience no improvement in your condition after a week of regular prescribed use, consult your doctor for reassessment. Avoid continuing to use Gartic Eye Drop or any steroid-containing eye medicine after this time period.
