The lateral view X-ray is captured from the patient’s side. It visualises the heel bone, skin, and muscles around it. It helps to detect fractures, infections, osteoporosis, deformities, or abnormal growth surrounding the heel. Severe heel pain is a common symptom, which this X-Ray can diagnose. An X-ray uses radiation to create a picture of the area. A radiologist will assess the images and send a report.

What are the drawbacks of a bone X-ray?

X-ray images give a very clear view of the bones. However, it does not provide a good visual image of the soft tissues like tendons, muscles or fat tissue under the skin. Apart from this, it also exposes the patient to some amount of radiations but the benefit of the information gained from an X-ray image outweighs the risk of radiations.
