The X - Ray Right Femur AP & LAT Views is a non-invasive, painless test that uses a small amount of radiation to visualise the thigh bone (femur) and the soft tissues (skin and muscles) surrounding it. The image takes on a specially developed X-ray film. The X-ray picture is black and white. Dense features like bones appear white, while softer bodily tissues like skin and muscles appear darker. The actual radiation exposure period is often less than a second, while the entire test may take between 15-20 minutes.

This test assesses any thigh bone (femur) fractures, monitors the healing process of the broken bone, and detects any infection, deformities, osteoporosis, or abnormal growth of this bone.

What are the drawbacks of a bone X-ray?

X-ray images give a very clear view of the bones. However, it does not provide a good visual image of the soft tissues like tendons, muscles or fat tissue under the skin. Even the bone microfractures or complicated spine injuries are not clearly visible on the X Ray images. Apart from this, it also exposes the patient to some amount of radiations but the benefit of the information gained from an X-ray image outweighs the risk of radiations.
