Understanding Shingrix Vaccine (Vaccination at Home)

What is Shingrix Vaccine?

The Shingrix Vaccine is a recombinant zoster vaccine designed to prevent herpes zoster (shingles), a painful blistering rash that typically affects one side of the body following a nerve pathway, and can lead to long-term nerve pain (postherpetic neuralgia). It works by stimulating the immune system to produce a strong response against the VZV, which helps prevent the reactivation of the virus. It is essential to take the vaccine doses per the doctor's advice for adequate protection against the disease.

Note: Shingrix vaccine is not used to prevent chickenpox

Benefits of Shingrix Vaccine:

  • Protects against shingles and postherpetic neuralgia
  • Reduces the risk of shingles-related complications
  • Lowers the likelihood of developing shingles
  • Lessens severity of symptoms if shingles does occur
