Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the hand is done to diagnose ligament tear, damage in the tendons as well as the pulley system. The MRI scan uses both radio waves and magnetic waves to generate images of the hand. This will be able to detect the problems in blood vessels, nerves, muscles, joints or bones.

During the procedure a soft gel is applied on the hand for getting clear images. The patient’s hand is taken inside the magnet for an MRI scan. The doctor may use a contrast injection to perform the scan. The patient may be asked to remove things like jewelry. The procedure takes a maximum of 45 minutes. Inform the doctor if you have already been operated on for fixing a stent in your body.

FAQs related to MRI Right Hand (MRI) in Ahmednagar

X-ray images give a very clear view of the bones. However, it does not provide a good visual image of the soft tissues like tendons, muscles or fat tissue under the skin. Even the bone microfractures or complicated spine injuries are not clearly visible on the X Ray images. Apart from this, it also exposes the patient to some amount of radiations but the benefit of the information gained from an X-ray image outweighs the risk of radiations.
The interpretation of an X-Ray image is carried out by a radiologist who analyses or reads the X-ray image and prepares a report of the findings which is shared with the patient.
