MPO

The MPO (Myeloperoxidase Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies) test detects autoantibodies against myeloperoxidase (MPO), an enzyme found in neutrophils (a type of white blood cell). These autoantibodies, called anti-MPO antibodies, are associated with autoimmune diseases like Vasculitis, especially Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (GPA) and Microscopic Polyangiitis (MPA). A positive result is commonly seen in these types of vasculitis, aiding in diagnosis and treatment planning. The test is especially useful for differentiating GPA and MPA from other vasculitis forms, providing valuable insight for effective management.
