The HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR uses the CERVICHECK™ Self-Sampling Kit (Delivered within 4–5 working days) to collect the sample for detecting the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common virus that can cause cervical cancer and other health issues. This test employs Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method to find out the genetic material (DNA) of HPV in the sample. It can detect the specific type of HPV including HPV-16 or HPV-18, the two most common strains of HPV. By identifying the exact HPV type, the test helps in the early detection and HPV related illnesses as HPV infection often does not cause symptoms but can lead to serious problems over time. Knowing your HPV status can help you and your doctor take timely steps for monitoring, treatment, and preventing HPV related health complications. This test is recommended for women between 25-65 years.

Understanding HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR

What is the HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR test?

The HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR test is an advanced molecular test designed to identify the genetic material (DNA) of Human Papillomavirus in cervical samples. Unlike routine screening methods, this test not only confirms the presence of HPV infection but also determines the exact HPV genotype, especially high-risk strains such as HPV-16 and HPV-18, which are responsible for the majority of cervical cancer cases.

The test uses the PCR technique, which amplifies even very small amounts of viral DNA, making it highly sensitive and accurate, even in early or asymptomatic stages of infection.

2. Collect the sample within 5 days of receiving the kit and inform for sample pickup.

3. Refrain intercourse 24 hours before sampling

Why is HPV genotyping important?

HPV genotyping is vital for precise risk stratification because it identifies the specific strains (mainly HPV 16 and 18) that carry the highest oncogenic potential.

Who should consider the HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR test?

Every healthy woman between 25 – 65 years should get themselves screened periodically for HPV.

What does the HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR test results mean?

If the report is negative/ not detected it means NO high-risk viral DNA was found in your sample and you are at very low risk of developing cervical cancer in the next 5-10 years. If the report is Positive it means that you have an HPV infection. However, this does NOT necessarily mean that you have cancer. You are requested to meet a gynaecologist and further tests are to be done as per gynaec’s suggestion.

When to consult a gynecologist?

In case your HPV report is Positive, then you should consult a gynaecologist.

How is this test different from a Pap Smear?

A PAP test identifies if cancer or any abnormality is present in the cervix or not. It is a microscopic analysis performed on sample collected by the gynaecologist. It does not detect HPV and hence it does not detect early risk to cervical cancer.

What are the possible risks or discomforts of HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR?

The CERVICHECK self sampling kit has been tested for its safety and accuracy when used as per the instruction given. It has been found to be safe and accurate. With over 3000 users, no adverse event has ever been reported.

What are the limitations of the HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR test?

  • A negative result does not completely rule out HPV infection, as infection may be acquired later.
  • The test cannot detect cervical cell changes; abnormal cells may exist even if HPV is not detected.
  • Low-risk HPV infections may resolve spontaneously, while high-risk HPV may require further testing.
  • Results may be affected by incorrect sample collection or handling.

Disclaimer: This test is safe and minimally invasive when instructions are followed correctly. Mild discomfort during sample collection may occur. Do not use the kit if you are pregnant.

Note: This test is intended for screening and risk assessment purposes only. Results cannot alone diagnose cervical cancer or other conditions. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for interpretation and follow-up.

What does HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR measure?

The HPV DNA Detection and Genotyping by PCR test detects the presence of DNA from high-risk Human Papillomavirus types (especially types 16 and 18) in cervical cells. This helps to identify the risk for cervical cancer even before visible abnormalities appear. Traditionally the sample for this test is collected by a gynaecologist. CERVICHECK self sampling gives you an alternative to get yourself screened for HPV with dignity from the privacy and convenience of your home.
