Understanding Acid Phosphatase - Total
What is Acid Phosphatase - Total?
Acid phosphatase test evaluates the levels of PSA in blood. Prostate-specific antigen or PSA is a protein that can be produced by malignant or normal prostate gland cells. The test uses an acid phosphate assay kit for measuring the enzyme level in blood serum.
You don’t have to do any special preparation before the test as a routine blood test will be performed. However, it is crucial to ensure that you don’t have any prostate massage before the test. To determine which tissue this enzyme is coming out of, the technicians measure the amount of enzyme present in the sample. It is done to differentiate if it is from the red blood cells or the prostate gland.
