Varicella Zoster DNA Detection by RT-PCR

The Varicella Zoster DNA Detection by RT-PCR test detects the varicella-zoster virus in the collected sample. Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is a highly contagious virus that causes chickenpox (varicella) in children and shingles (herpes zoster) in adults. This test uses Real-Time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) technique which is a sensitive and accurate method that amplifies and detects the specific DNA sequence of the VZV virus in the blood sample. It can provide rapid results, allowing for early detection and diagnosis of VZV infection, to assess treatment effectiveness and to identify the virus in patients with weakened immune systems. You may also need this test if you are recently exposed to chickenpox or shingles. Your diagnosis of either chickenpox or shingles will depend on your age and specific symptoms.
