The *1p/19q co-deletion by FISH test is used to detect the combined loss (co-deletion) of parts of chromosomes 1p and 19q in brain tumors, especially oligodendrogliomas. This genetic alteration is a key marker for diagnosing oligodendrogliomas and is linked to better response to treatment and longer survival. Identifying the 1p/19q co-deletion helps doctors distinguish between different types of gliomas and choose the most suitable therapy.
