What is CECT Scan Leg?
A CECT Leg or Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography of the leg is an imaging technique that uses contrast material, X-rays, and computers to create detailed cross-sectional images of the leg. These images may help physicians and orthopedists access and evaluate the conditions affecting the leg. Moreover, the image also helps detect fractures, tumors, and structural instability/misalignment, less-dense body parts, such as discs and nerve roots in the leg.
Some people may experience slight burning at the site of the contrast material injection and develop a few adverse effects such as irritation, skin burn, or rashes, which usually subside within a few minutes. An abnormal scan may indicate the presence of defects or deformities such as osteoporosis (brittle and fragile bones), fractures, or injuries in the leg.
Why is CT Scan done?
- • To detect the fractures of the bones of the leg not visible on a simple X-ray • To detect the cause of any unexplained pain in the leg • To detect any infection, injury or inflammation of the soft tissues like the muscle, the tendons and ligaments of the leg • To diagnose any suspected infection, osteoporosis, deformities or abnormal growth of the bones and arthritis (inflammation of the joints)
