Tannic Acid



Tannic acid is used for the treatment of cold sores, fever blisters, diaper rash and prickly heat, ingrown toenails, sore throat, sore tonsils, spongy or receding gums, and skin rashes etc. It can also be used as vaginal wash in case of white or yellow discharge. 

How it works

Tannic acid belongs to the class of medications called as astringents. It is a natural chemical called as polyphenol that has an astringent effect which leads to shrinking or constricting of swollen tissues.

Vomiting, Nausea, Stomach irritation


Expert advice

  • Always consume tannic acid after a gap of 1 hour from other medications as tannic acid may hamper absorption of other medications.
  • Tell your doctor if you are suffering from iron deficiency anemia since tannic acid may hamper iron absorption. 
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. 
  • Do not take if patient is allergic to tannic acid or any of its ingredients.
