How Mesalamine works
Mesalamine acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract to decrease the production of inflammatory substances, such as prostaglandins, thereby reducing inflammation and promoting the healing of the damaged tissue. It may also act as an antioxidant and help to neutralize harmful free radicals in the inflamed tissues.
