Maraviroc Uses

Maraviroc is used in the treatment of HIV infection.

How Maraviroc works

Maraviroc is a chemokine receptor antagonist. It shows its action by binding to the human chemokine receptor CCR5 present on the membrane of CD4 cells (T-cells) and prevents the interaction of HIV with CCR5 required by the HIV virus to enter the human cells.

Common side effects of Maraviroc

Nausea, Rash, Anemia (low number of red blood cells), Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), Weakness, Increased liver enzymes, Abdominal pain, Flatulence, Loss of appetite, Depression
