Lifitegrast Uses
Lifitegrast is used in the treatment of dry eyes.
How Lifitegrast works
Lifitegrast interferes by inhibiting a protein known as LFA-1 (lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1) from attaching to another protein called ICAM-1 (intercellular adhesion molecule-1) on the surface of the eye. This is an important step in the inflammatory response that leads to the symptoms of dry eye. By inhibiting this attachment, Lifitegrast decreases inflammation and allows a more balanced tear film to be restored, thereby easing irritation and discomfort.
