When you take this medicine, you may notice an increase in thin watery mucus from your air passages. This is an indication that it is working as it is helping to remove mucus by making it easier to cough up.

Q. How quickly does Carbocisteine work?

It may take up to 4 weeks before you notice your symptoms improving. However, this might vary with respect to dosage, the patient receiving the drug, and response to treatment. It is advisable to keep taking the medicine as advised by the doctor even if there is no improvement straightaway.

Q. Is Carbocisteine good for dry cough?

No. Carbocisteine is more effective in the treatment of productive cough associated with thickened mucus. Consult your doctor to prescribe you the right medication for dry cough.

Q. Will Carbocisteine affect contraceptive methods?

This medicine does not affect any type of contraception, including the combined pill and emergency contraception. However, if taking Carbocisteine makes you vomit or have severe diarrhea for more than 24 hours, your contraceptive pills may not protect you from pregnancy. Consult your doctor who can advise you on this.

This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first three months or the first trimester.
