Clotrimazole Topical(1% w/w)


Clotrimazole topical is used for the treatment of fungal infections of the vagina, mouth, ear and skin, such as athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, thrush, or otitis externa (inflammation of outer ear).

How it works

Clotrimazole belongs to a class of medications called as antifungals. It works by preventing the growth of fungi that cause the infection.

Fusidic Acid Topical(2% w/w)


Fusidic acid topical is used alone or in combination with systemic therapy to treat conditions such as impetigo (weeping, crusty and swollen patch of skin), infected dermatitis (inflammation of the skin and spots), infected cuts and grazes and irritation and bacterial conjunctivitis (redness in the membrane covering the eye).

How it works

Fusidic acid belongs to the class of medications called as bacteriostatic antibiotics. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, thereby killing the bacteria.

It is used to treat inflammation and various skin conditions like eczema (inflammation and blistering on skin in patches causing redness and bleeding), psoriasis (red, itchy, scaly patches on skin), and dermatitis (redness and swelling of skin due to allergy).

How it works

Mometasone belongs to a class of medications called as corticosteroids. It works by blocking the release of inflammatory mediators called cytokines thereby relieving inflammation, swelling and itching.

Expert advice for XINOMOM CF

  • Do not use clotrimazole topical for vaginal infections if you are menstruating.
  • Do not take clotrimazole pessary by mouth. Avoid direct contact of cream or drops with your eyes. In case of direct contact, wash your eyes with water immediately and seek immediate medical attention.
  • Do not use tampons, vaginal douches, spermicides, or other vaginal products while using clotrimazole for vaginal infections.
  • Avoid vaginal intercourse during treatment of vaginal infections.
  • Do not use the vaginal tablets in children younger than 16 years.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had two infections of fungal vaginitis in the last six months, history of sexually transmitted disease (STD) or exposed to a partner with STD, or have pregnancy or suspected pregnancy.
  • Tell your doctor before using clotrimazole, if you have any of the following symptoms: irregular or abnormal vaginal bleeding, a blood-stained discharge, vulval or vaginal ulcers, blisters or sores, lower abdominal pain, fever or chills, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or foul smelling vaginal discharge.
  • Seek immediate medical advice if symptoms do not relieve within a week of using vaginal cream or tablets, or infection recurs more than twice within six months.
  • Patients allergic to clotrimazole or other imidazole antifungal medications or any of its ingredients. 
  • It should not given to patients who never had a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed by a doctor.
  • It should not take if patient is who have itching caused by a condition other than a yeast infection.

Q. Is clotrimazole a steroid?
Clotrimazole is an imidazole antifungal medication and not a steroid. 

Fusidic Acid Topical

Q. Is fusidic acid a penicillin/ an antibiotic?
Fusidic acid (also available as fucidin) is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic. It is not penicillin, but it may kill certain bacteria, which are resistant to penicillin antibiotics.
Q. What is fusidic cream used for/ is it good for acne/spots/ringworm/athlete’s foot?
Fusidic cream is used to clear skin infection quickly, particularly where the infection only covers a small area. It can be used for treating acne and spots caused by bacterial infections. It is not used for treating fungal infections such as athlete's foot or ringworm. Always follow your doctor’s advice regarding its use. 
Q. Is fusidic acid available over the counter?
No, it is available only with your doctor's prescription.
Q. Is fusidic acid and sodium fusidate same?
Sodium fusidate is a salt of fusidic acid and it works in the same way as fusidic acid.
Q. Is fucidin a steroid/ used for impetigo/ good for cold sores/ good for spots/ good for boils/good for treating herpes?
Fucidin is not a steroid. As per doctor’s recommendation it can be used for treating impetigo, boils, spots and cold sores, redness as a result of bacterial infection. It is not used for viral diseases that affect the skin such as herpes simplex, varicella (chickenpox) and vaccinia. 
Q. How long does fusidic acid take to work?
You should see results after a few days of fusidic acid treatment; however it depends upon the condition for which it is being treated (for e.g. a course of treatment for impetigo typically lasts for around 7-10 days) and also other factors (age, body weight, other medical conditions etc.
