Gulkand

Gulkand is a traditional Ayurvedic preparation made by slowly mixing fresh rose petals with sugar and keeping the mixture in sunlight for several days until it turns into a soft, sweet preserve. It is known for its naturally cooling, soothing, and nourishing properties.
Since rose petals have a cooling effect on the body, Gulkand helps reduce excess heat and calm the digestive system[1]. It is commonly used to support relief from acidity, burning sensations, fatigue, mouth ulcers, and menstrual discomfort [2]. It also helps keep the body refreshed and hydrated, especially during hot weather.
Regular intake of ½ teaspoon may support digestion, cool the body, and help maintain overall comfort during hot summer months. However, since Gulkand contains sugar, people with diabetes or those who need to limit sugar intake should consume it carefully or seek medical advice before regular use.

Benefits of Gulkand

1. Acidity
Acidity happens when the food is left undigested or when Ama is formed inside the body, which results in the aggravation of Pitta dosha. An aggravated Pitta impairs the digestive fire, leading to improper digestion of food and production of Ama. This Ama gets accumulated in the digestive channels and causes hyperacidity. This also leads to a burning sensation in the chest, which is known as heartburn. Gulkand is very effective in relieving acidity, heartburn, and sour belching caused by excess acid production in the stomach. Its cooling and soothing nature helps calm irritated digestive tissues, reduces acidity, and provides quick relief from burning sensations.

2. Mouth Ulcer
Mouth ulcers are small, painful sores that form inside the mouth, on the tongue, lips, cheeks, gums, or the inner lining of the mouth. They can cause discomfort while eating, drinking, or speaking. In Ayurveda, this condition is known as Mukh Pak and is commonly linked to an aggravated Pitta dosha, causing excess body heat. Gulkand, with its natural cooling and soothing properties, helps calm irritation, reduce burning sensation, and promote faster healing of mouth ulcers.

3. General Weakness
General weakness is a feeling of body fatigue or tiredness. This usually happens when the body is deprived of a continuous flow of energy. Due to Gulkand's nourishing and strength-promoting (Balya) nature, Gulkand helps restore energy in people suffering from fatigue, dehydration, or heat exhaustion. It supports tissue nourishment and improves overall vitality.

4. Dysmenorrhea
Dysmenorrhea is a condition of pain or discomfort (cramps) during or just before a menstrual period. The pain is usually felt in the lower abdomen. Gulkand is beneficial in relieving menstrual pain, especially when discomfort is associated with excess heat, burning sensation, or irritability. It cools the body, soothes the uterine tissues, and helps reduce cramps naturally.
